Abstrakt Lake was born of my growing interest in field recording. After a first single in 2024, “The Pond Below”, noticed by UK magazine 'Prog', and followed by an eponymous album, the project is backin 2025 with 'Meanderings'. The new album follows in the footsteps of the previous opus, while taking the music to sometimes more electronic shores.
The tracks are based on sounds recorded in Slovenia ('Škofja Loka'), Latvia ('A Rainy Day in Valmiera'), Paris ('Entre les Péniches') and the French countryside. In the studio, field recording sounds become loops, percussion, pads or synthesizers, and form the basis of the 8 tracks, which are then enriched by more conventional instruments (guitar, mandolin) and vintage electronic sounds (drum machines, synthesizers). By turns, the music is dreamy (the single 'Psittacalling' and its ethereal video, with guest appearance by Ukrainian cellist Artem Litovchenko), ambient, melodic, strange or sometimes downright wild ('Keys of Baba Yaga')! Influences range from Lluvia Acida to Autumnist, via Porcupine Tree ('Voyage 34' period), Dead Can Dance, Marius Leirånes and Molesome.
Like the first album, 'Meanderings' was mixed and mastered by Latvian musician Vadik Squarez (from pop-metal band All the Devils), and is distributed by Wormhole World Records.
